The Beer Tasters' Social House

Yukon Film Society and The Beer Tasters’ Social House present a new film series highlighting exceptionally bizarre cult and underground films! Horror, exploitation, schlock and more will sully the screen at The Social House once a month this summer so come on down for some great beer and free popcorn! Free entry!

Directed by Brian De Palma with music by Paul Williams, Phantom of the Paradise (1974) is a rock ‘n’ roll retelling of one of literature’s most adapted stories: The Phantom of the Opera. Paradise is the tale of a disfigured musician who haunts the world’s greatest rock palace, intent on exacting revenge on the producer who stole his life’s work. An almost universal flop (except in Paris and Winnipeg), Paradise has since become a cult sensation as a glam-rock musical dealing in excess and vanity, inspiring artists like Daft Punk with its leather-and-mask clad Phantom and its explosive live performances.

“Phantom of the Paradise is not just one of the flashiest, angriest musical films, but an enduring and damning kiss-off to America’s spiraling desperation for entertainment.” Jacob Oller, The Film Stage
