Incident at Restigouche + Rise: Standing Rock Part 1&2

Regarded as landmark in Indigenous filmmaking, Alanis Obomsawin’s 1984 film Incident at Restigouche chronicles a series of two raids on the Listuguj Mi’gmaq First Nation by the Sûreté du Québec in 1981 as part of the efforts of the Quebec government to impose new restrictions on Native salmon fishermen. Rise is seven part documentary series that was written and directed in 2016 for Viceland by Toronto-based filmmaker, Michelle Latimer. Standing Rock: Sacred Water follows the people of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation of North and South Dakota in the early days of organizing to stop a pipeline from being built on their ancestral homeland. Standing Rock: Red Power chronicles the history of colonization of the Sioux people in the Dakotas against the backdrop to the largest gathering of Indigenous resistance to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline.
