Employment Opportunity: Festival Manager + Programmer Yukon Film Society

Festival Manager and Programmer Responsibilities
This is a term position working under the supervision of the YFS Artistic Director, Administrator and Board of Directors, and in collaboration with the Technical Coordinator. The Festival Manager and programmer will implement the YFS’s artistic vision and strategy in regard to Available Light Film Festival ALFF and ALFF Industry conference (ALFFI), and ensure that all programming is in line with the aims, mandate and policies of YFS.

ALFF Responsibilities include:
• Organize a call for film submissions, attend film festivals in other regions of Canada, select films and artists with the Artistic Director
• Contact filmmakers and artists, draw up contracts and make programming and travel arrangements for them
• Choose, hire and draw up contracts for ALFF production team contractors
• Plan the year’s ALFF publicity and marketing campaign

ALFF Industry Responsibilities include:
• Develop topics, themes, and specific content for ALFFi workshops, presentations, panel discussions, film talks, Pitch Event and other events
• Manage and coordinate all ALFF Industry events in collaboration with YFS staff
• Contact ALFFi guest facilitators, presenters, and panelists, draw up contracts and make travel and hospitality arrangements for them
• Supervise and provide direction to ALFF Industry contractors and volunteers
• Coordinate technical requirements for ALFF Industry events
• Assist the ALFF team with promotion and publicity of ALFF Industry events

Funding and Fundraising Activities
• Prepare grant applications for ALFF and ALFFi in cooperation with the Artistic Director and Administrator
• Develop and sustain strong, supportive and respectful working relationships with ALFF and ALFFi sponsors
• Negotiate and prepare agreements with ALFF and ALFFi sponsors and funders, and submit reports and other information as required by the terms of the funding agreements

Education, Experience and Skills
• Experience working in the film, cinema or media arts sector
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft software (Word and Excel) and Mac computer
• Proven organizational abilities
• Proven ability to work positively and constructively with funders, Board, staff and volunteers
• Flexibility and adaptability to deal with new projects, challenges and technologies as they arise
• Ability to take initiative and work in a self-directed manner
• Experience working in the non-profit sector an asset
• Valid driver’s license an asset.

Salary and Benefits
This is an 8-month term position until March 31, 2019, at $23 per hour, for an average of 18 hours per week over 34 weeks. There is a possibility that this position will become permanent.
