ALFF Creative Spotlight: A Composer’s Insight

Music producer and genius violinist Jesse Zubot has performed with myriad luminaries of the music world and is a key collaborator of Polaris Prize-winner Tanya Tagaq. Zubot has recently turned his hand to composing soundtracks for film. His work can be heard in the ALFF Opening Gala film KONELINE, the Canada/Germany co-production Hector and the Search for Happiness and the upcoming Kim Nguyen dramatic feature starring Tatiana Maslany and Gordon Pinsent, Two Lovers and Bear.

Whitehorse musician and composer Jordy Walker will moderate this discussion.

‘Hector and the Search for Happiness’, a is feature film starring Simon Pegg, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard and Rosamund Pike for which Jesse composed the score with Vancouver’s Dan Mangan. Jesse composed and arranged music for the film that was performed by the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg (Potsdam, Germany). This score was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award in January 2015.

From Iskut to Telegraph Creek to the Spatsizi plateau, KONELĪNE (our land beautiful) is a gorgeously photographed cinematic poem to people’s relationship to the land in Tahltan country and their reflections on the industrial developments taking place in their backyard. Directed by esteemed Vancouver filmmaker Nettie Wild.

Two Lovers and a Bear was filmed in Iqaluit, NU and will be released in 2016.
