A Bullet Pulling Thread

Can quilting change the world? Renowned quilter Marilyn Farquhar was devastated when police killed her brother after a mental health crisis. So she created Kairos, a series of quilts as a way to process her grief, spark conversations about violence and motivate change in policing.

Marilyn was a superstar of the quilting world who never made her artwork political. Then in January 2020, the RCMP shot and killed her brother, an activist who fought for the rights of the homeless in the town of Abbotsford, BC. His 911 call for help summoned an army of police officers, snipers, a K9 unit–but not a single mental health worker.

Now Marilyn is on a quest to confront law enforcement with her pain and share her quilts and experiences with those who knew her brother. But as she discovers, grief is a question with no easy answers. Kairos is a Greek word which means ‘an opportune time for action’ and for Marilyn, that time is now.
