The Yukon Film Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting filmmakers and providing cinema and media arts experiences for the Yukon public. Our mandate is to:

1. exhibit independent cinema, multi-disciplinary arts and media art works to Yukon audiences;
2. support the production and distribution of Yukon cinema and media art works;
3. provide training, and access to production equipment for Yukon filmmakers and media artists.

Responsibilities

The Programs Producer will work under the supervision of the Artistic Director, YFS Administrator and Board of Directors, and in collaboration with the Technical Coordinator and Marketing & Distribution Coordinator. The Programs Producer will implement the YFS' artistic vision and strategy with regard to exhibition activities, community outreach and creative programming.

The Programs Producer will ensure that all productions and programming are in line with the aims and policies and mandate of YFS. The Employee will develop and maintain strong partnerships with funders, community organizations and sponsors.

Programming / Exhibition Activities
Conceive and develop cinema events, special events, panels, featured guests and programs. Co-manage, produce and promote projects related to exhibition, artistic development, industry and sector development, and programs, including but not limited to:

Available Light Cinema (ALC)
  ●    Negotiate venue rental agreement with Yukon Arts Centre (YAC)
  ●    Help choose ALC films
  ●    Negotiate with distributers for ALC at Home (online screenings)  
  ●    Ensure that the Administrator receives Box Office reports for ALC at Home and ALC screenings at YAC for ticket revenue invoicing
  ●    Oversee poster, newspaper and social media advertising

Available Light Film Festival (ALFF)
  ●    Negotiate agreements with artists and exhibition venues as needed
  ●    Assist in monitoring ALFF budget in collaboration with Artistic Director and Administrator
  ●    In collaboration with Festival Director and Associate Programmer/Industry Producer, choose and implement live show programming for ALFF 2020
  ●    Help choose, hire, and draw up contracts for ALFF production team contractors and artists
  ●    Ensure filing of contracts and supply payment details to YFS Administrator
  ●    Help plan the year’s ALFF publicity and marketing campaign
  ●    Manage film submissions and coordinate the ALFF Selections Advisory Committee
  ●    Venue management at Yukon Arts Centre and KDCC including:

  1. ensuring that shows are introduced, guests are present, performers are ready and have     everything they require
  2. volunteer scheduling and management: membership table and guest transportation if     applicable
  3. guest services including helping book and make changes to flights and accommodations if     applicable
  4. assisting with guest liaison – ensuring guests’ needs are met, media interviews are scheduled     and attended  

ALFF Public Relations and Marketing
  ●    Oversee festival communications, help prepare advertising and news releases
  ●    Assist the ALFF team with promotion and publicity of festival events
  ●    Act as a spokesperson for ALFF 2020 and ensure all communications to the public reflect the YFS mission on a regional, national and international level
  ●    Assist in developing content for ALFF print program in collaboration with the Festival Director and Associate Programmer/Industry Producer.
  ●    In collaboration with the Festival Director and Associate Programmer/Industry Producer, help foster the development of good relations with other cultural organizations.

ALFF pitch event
  ●    Oversee the Pitch Event Coordinator’s work, which includes choosing the event jury, forwarding pitches to jury members, setting the agenda for the event, organizing the venue, and forwarding winners to the YFS Administrator

Telefilm Talent to Watch recommendation program
  ●    Help develop call for applications, liaise with applicants

Yukon 48 Hour Film Challenge
  ●    Work with Technical Coordinator and Klondike Institute of Art and Culture to advertise the Challenge, communicate with participants, solicit prizes, and organize the Challenge screening including venue and agenda

ALFF at home collections on various platforms
  ●    Coordinate with partner organizations

Available Light on Demand (ALD)
  ●    Coordinate with with Marketing and Distribution Coordinator on marketing and scheduling for YFS’ Video on Demand service

Community outreach activities around the Yukon
  ●    Work with First Nations and communities to determine what exhibition and training activities they would like and, with Artistic Director and other staff, develop and implement an outreach plan

YFS professional development workshops
  ●    Support Technical Coordinator in organizing workshops and training

Jenni House Artist Residency Program
  ●    With Administrator, assist with managing the residency program, including artist selection and facility management

Funding and Fundraising Activities
  ●    Prepare grant applications for select projects and operational funding in cooperation with the Artistic Director and Administrator
  ●    Develop and sustain strong, supportive and respectful working relationships with ALFF sponsors
  ●    Negotiate and prepare agreements with ALFF sponsors and funders, and submit reports and other information as required by the terms of the funding agreements
  ●    Maintain and develop partnerships with various national and territorial organizations

Education, Experience and Skills
  ●    Experience working in the film, cinema or media arts sector
  ●    Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  ●    Excellent social media skills
  ●    Strong administrative and record-keeping skills
  ●    Proven event organizing abilities
  ●    Proven ability to work positively and constructively with staff, funders, Board, and volunteers
  ●    Flexibility and adaptability to assist with new projects, challenges and technologies as they arise
  ●    Ability to take initiative and work in a self-directed manner
  ●    Proficiency with Microsoft software (Word and Excel) and Mac computer
  ●    Experience working with cloud-based collaborative software an asset (YFS uses Zone Festival)
  ●    Experience working in the non-profit sector is an asset
  ●    Valid driver’s license is an asset

Salary and Benefits

This is a permanent position at $25 per hour, for an average of 30 hours per week.  YFS has a modest staff health benefits program.
