Available Light Cabaret: The Jenni House Waltz and Jennihouse + Peter Jickling

This event took place on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 10:00pm
Yukon Arts Centre Studio Theatre

The Jenni House Waltz is a video dance hybrid -- the document of a symbiotic relationship between two forms, entwined with a document of Jenni House and its immediate surroundings. While engaging with the tools of video and dance, the weather, and the space, during the July 2018 Jenni House Residency, collaborating artists Renée Lear and Aimée Dawn Robinson concurrently explored and documented: co-authorship, reoccurrence, experiment, and reiteration. The Jenni House Waltz is an accumulation of three’s – three cameras, three camera positions on the dancing body, three turns around the Jenni House, three layers of video, the threes of a waltz. Jicklinghouse is the collaboration between Yukon born-and-raised poet Peter Jickling and Whitehorse-based music duo Scott Maynard and Sam Gallagher, known as Jennihouse. Borne of the Gold Pan Saloon’s rollicking music scene, Jennihouse has made waves with intricate, driving melodies and an expansive musical vision. In spring 2018, Peter joined Jennihouse on stage, performing his no-fat poetry over their ambient rock, creating a wholly original musical and literary experience. They followed up with well-received shows at the Keno Gras Music Festival and the aforementioned Gold Pan Saloon. In 2019, Toronto’s Guernica Editions is publishing Peter’s first poetry collection and Jennihouse is releasing their third full-length recording, “Bear Witness”. Together, Jicklinghouse might change your perspective on poetry…and music.
