Winner of the Available Light Film Festival 2014 Audience Choice Award for best Canadian Documentary Whitehorse based filmmaker Dennis Allen's raw and honest exploration of substance abuse among First Nations communities, begins in his own childhood. Born in Inuvik, Dennis grew up in a community where alcohol abuse was rampant. In his efforts to get sober, he came across a the book "Crazywater", by writer Brian Maracle of the Mohawk Nation, that featured Native people talking openly about their problems with alcohol. As Dennis says, "(h)ow can anyone understand us, if we don't tell our story?" His new film is an incredibly honest effort to do just that: empower five people to tell their stories of surviving addiction.
