The artists welcome you to the residency space to chat about their work, past, present, and future. Light refreshments will be served. This is a FREE Event *Also! Stay tuned - Renée and Aimée will be offering a performance (in, or nearby, Jenni House) on Thursday July 26th at 7:00 pm. Mark your calendars for both these post-Fireweed market affairs! A little bit about Renée and Aimée: Renée and Aimée come to this residency with two distinct art practices, and also a history of working together. The first conversation the two had about the relationship between dance and video and space, was most likely in 1996. Aimée's dances are improvised and most often site-specific, drawing from her study of dance as embodied radical actions. Aimée usually performs outdoors, welcoming viewers to consider their own relationships to the landscape, time, space, their bodies and embodiment. A structural/materialist video artist, in her work, Renée interrogates the material of video and mechanics of video apparatus. While frequently Renée manipulates the material of video (light, colour, codecs, pixels, space and time) in post-production, for the purpose of this collaboration - to allow for a process that is one-to-one with the dancer - Renée will work exclusively with the recording video camera, using all in-camera editing and working with only the mechanisms of the camera (focus, exposure, focal length, motion, etc.,) to manipulate the moving image. The emphasis is on the act of shooting video and the act of dancing in relationship to the surroundings. Through developing a daily video and dance practice, Renée and Aimée concurrently explore co-authorship, reoccurrence, experiment, reiteration - gathering information about what's possible in everyday spaces.
