Snake Hips Lulu Lulu Keating, 2017, YT, 3 min
When celebrated Nova Scotia filmmaker, Lulu Keating moved to Dawson City, Yukon, she wondered if she might be the reincarnation of a dance hall girl of the Klondike Gold Rush. Beauty Christina Willings, 2018, BC, 23 min Explores the lives of five gender-creative kids, each uniquely engaged in shaping their own sense of what it means to be fully human. Whether it’s dealing with bullies, explaining themselves to their parents, or navigating the uncharted waters of relationships, Bex, Lili, Fox, Tru and Milo talk about their experiences and struggle to live in authenticity. Left Hand Path Jessica Hall, 2017, YT, 13.33 min The art, philosophy and religion of black magic practitioner James C. Kirby is explored while he creates a unique piece of jewelry using the ancient art of lost wax casting. Lipsett Diaries Theodore Ushev, 2010, PQ, 14 min This award-winning animation depicts the maelstrom of anguish that tormented Arthur Lipsett, a famed Canadian experimental filmmaker who died at the age of 49. His descent into depression and madness is explored through a series of images as well as sounds taken from Lipsett's own work. Skin for Skin Carol Beecher & Kevin D.A. Kurytnik, 2017, Alberta, 15 min An animated dark allegory of greed and spiritual reckoning set during the early days of the fur trade. In 1823, the Governor of the largest fur-trading company in the world travels across his Dominion, extracting ever-greater riches from the winter bounty of animal furs. In his brutal world of profit and loss, animals are slaughtered to the brink of extinction until the balance of power shifts, and the forces of nature exact their own terrible price. With nods to Melville and Coleridge, directors Beecher & Kurytnik have created a visually stunning contemporary myth about the cost of arrogance and greed. Manivald Chintis Lundgren, 2017, Canada/Estonia, 12 min A fox is turning 33. Over-educated, unemployed and generally uninspired, he lives with his overbearing mother and spends his days learning piano while she makes his coffee and washes his socks. It is an easy life, but not a good one. Their unhealthy co-dependence is about to collapse when the washing machine breaks down and Toomas, a wolf repairman, arrives to fix it.
