This conversation explores making bold, personal work in the North, navigating independent production, and translating place, culture, and experimentation into distinctive cinematic voices emerging from the Yukon.

Jessica Hall is a Whitehorse-based filmmaker whose work blends personal documentary, family history, and northern storytelling. Her latest short film, Saturday (produced by the National Film Board of Canada) offers an intimate portrait of her sister Katherine and mother Frances through their shared ritual of building dollhouses, weaving home-movie archives with observations on creativity, disability, and care. Hall’s previous film, Rob Is Analog, won the Audience Choice Award at the Available Light Film Festival, further establishing her as a distinctive northern voice. Across her work, Hall brings a warm, attentive lens to stories rooted in community, memory, and the everyday lives of Yukon families.
