Tracey Deer is an award-winning Kanien’kéhaka (Mohawk) filmmaker from Kahnawá:ke, working in both documentary and fiction. Tracey has numerous credits as producer, director and writer. Her 2005 film Mohawk Girls won the Alanis Obomsawin Best Documentary Award at imagineNATIVE, and she later adapted it into a TV series that won five award-winning seasons (with Deer as the co-creator, director, and co-showrunner). Additional director credits include Club Native, an exploration of contested blood quantum laws, and Kanien’kehá:ka/Living the Language, which profiles a Kanien’kehá:ka language immersion program. In 2006, she founded Mohawk Princess Pictures, dedicated to reflecting “the complex realities of modern Aboriginal life.” Tracey was a writing co-EP on the Netflix/CBC series Anne with an E. She is currently working on Inner City Girl, a feature about Aboriginal gang life, with Original Pictures. Tracey’s work has been honoured with two Gemini Awards and numerous awards from film festivals. Her highly-acclaimed film, Beans, was listed as one of TIFF's Top 10 Feature Films in 2020, and is the opening film for ALFF 2021.
Naomi Mark is a Yukon-based Director / Producer who works in both fiction and documentary. Her work can be seen on both CBC and Knowledge Network.
