Anatomy of a Scene with Atom Egoyan

This event took place on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024 at 11:00 amYukon Theatre

Returning to the territory for the first time since 1992, the Yukon Film Society is thrilled to announce Atom Egoyan's Master Class on the Anatomy of a Scene. It will run for approximately three hours and will place at the Yukon Theatre on November 24th at 11:00AM. As one of Canada's most accomplished filmmakers, Egoyan has directed films such as Next of Kin (1984), Arat (2002), and The Sweet Hereafter (1997). The latter won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes film festival and received Academy Award nominations for best director (Egoyan) and best adapted screenplay (Egoyan).

Egoyan will deliver a workshop about the role of a director on set. Focusing on the breakdown and anatomy of a scene, the Master Class will cover elements such as how to prepare a storyboard, how to establish your mise-en-scène, and some of the nuts and bolts of what goes into perparing, planning, and finally executing a scene. This will be further enhanced by looking at segments from his films such as Gross Missconduct: The Life of Brian Spencer (1993), Exotica (1994), and Chloe (2009). As a filmmaker who has written, directed, and produced nearly all of his own films, this workshop is of indispensable value to up-and-coming as well as established local filmmakers.
