How do you make your film ideas stand out in a landscape heavily influenced by Hollywood? Montreal’s Matthew Rankin is a celebrated filmmaker whose work has screened internationally at such festivals as Cannes, Sundance, SXSW, and TIFF. He got his start in Winnipeg where he was inspired by experimental filmmakers like Guy Maddin and John Paizs, who were acclaimed for working outside of the mainstream. In this workshop Matthew delves into his directorial process, explaining what has influenced his creative vision and how he has notched out a unique voice in Canada’s film scene.
