ALFF 2027 Previewing Committee - Apply Today!

May 14, 2026

Available Light Film Festival (ALFF), Canada’s largest film festival north of 60, is seeking passionate film lovers to join the ALFF 2027 Previewing Committee. ALFF celebrates Indigenous, northern, Canadian, and international cinema, and previewers play a key role in identifying standout films and helping shape the festival’s program.

The term runs from June to November 2026 (dates to be confirmed). Responsibilities include:

  • Watching and evaluating film submissions
  • Providing written feedback and scores
  • Participating in group discussions in person or via Zoom

Remote participation is available for members outside Whitehorse.

We are looking for individuals with a strong love of independent cinema who can thoughtfully articulate why a film works (or doesn’t), collaborate respectfully in discussion, and who are familiar with ALFF’s programming mandate.

Previous programming experience is not required; we welcome applicants from diverse communities and from across Canada, and value curiosity, openness, and a willingness to learn.

Compensation is an honorarium and an Industry/All-Access Pass to ALFF 2027. (If Previewer is from outside Whitehorse we will also offer two complimentary nights at the festival hotel during the festival.)

Previewers are expected to watch and review 50 feature/mid-length films or 200 short films. (Roughly 50 hours)

To apply, email a letter of interest to Sebastien Lapres, Programming Manager, at alffoperations@yukonfilmsociety.com

In your letter, explain why you would like to join the Previewing Team, if you’d want to be assigned shorts or features (or both), and list three remarkable independent films you have seen recently (short or feature) and what makes them stand out.

Deadline (extended!): Friday June 12, 2026 at 5:00 PM PST.

Successful candidates will be contacted by Friday June 19, 2026.
