July 4, 2025

YFS is looking for film-lovers to join the ALFF Programming Advisory Committee!

The Yukon Film Society is accepting applications for the Available Light Film Festival Programming Advisory Committee. The Available Light Film Festival is Canada's largest film festival north of 60 celebrating Indigenous, northern, Canadian, and international cinema.

The committee will meet from September 2025 – Dec 2025, with some additional discussion via email or WhatsApp. Applications are encouraged from diverse communities as well as people living in Yukon communities outside of Whitehorse. The committee will assist in programming the main film selections for ALFF 2026 in collaboration with the ALFF staff.

Committee work includes: researching films, pre-screening films for consideration, discussing films, and introducing screenings at the festival. Committee members outside of Whitehorse can Zoom into these meetings.

Qualifications

Knowledge of and love for independent cinema. This could range from a broad understanding of film history to a more specific interest in genre or sub-set.

Familiarity with ALFF and the type of work that the festival has presented in the past.

Excellent communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with the committee and ALFF/Yukon Film Society staff, and a willingness to balance the needs of the broader community with personal interests.

*Note about Qualifications – ALFF is committed to developing new voices in film programming in the Yukon. It is not a requirement for applicants to have programmed or curated film in the past. A sincere interest in programming and a willingness to learn are much more important.

Remuneration

Compensation for the position: $400 as well as an All Access Pass to ALFF 2026.
