The Yukon Film Society (YFS) is a thriving 37-year-old non-profit organization committed to ensuring the vitality and excellence of media arts in the Yukon and the North. We exhibit independent cinema, film, audio, and digital media artwork, provide filmmaking resources and equipment to our members, and training and professional development about film and digital media production and distribution. The Yukon Film Society is reopening the iconic Yukon Theatre located at 304 Wood Street in Whitehorse with a long-term plan to renovate the space to act as a social hub for gatherings, film screenings and a space for lectures, performing arts, concerts and other cultural presentations.
Description:
The projectionist position at The Yukon Theatre is for the technically inclined film lover looking to help facilitate cultural activities in our community. Someone behind the scenes to set-up and run our screenings as well as help out with public facing duties such as ticketing and ushering. Our hope is to build a roster of casual staff to grow with us as the theatre transforms into a community hub in the heart of downtown Whitehorse.
Screenings will generally take place between 5:30 PM and 10:30 PM; 3:00 PM and 10:30 PM on Saturdays and additional special event screenings. Paid training will be provided.
Remuneration: $27/hr
Primary Responsibilities:
-Arrive 1.5 hours before scheduled screenings
-Pre-screening preparation: Opening theatre; shutting off alarm; switching on lights; ensuring paths from exit doors are clear of snow; exit light check; projector preparation; audio test
-Operate projection and audio equipment for film screenings
-Report any equipment issues to The Yukon Theatre Manager right away
-Post-screening duties: proper shutdown of projection and audio equipment; turn off lights; turn on alarm; lock theatre doors
Secondary Duties:
-Customer service: Ushering; concessions; ticket sales and vaccine proof processing
-Venue maintenance: Sweeping; mopping; cleaning; sanitizing
