Filmmaker Workshop: John Banovich

This two evening workshop will cover Cinematography, Directing and Producing, with hands on demonstrations with Professional Sony Cinema Equipment

John Banovich, an international director, cinematographer and actor, directed the award winning feature films STOLEN PATH and SHARP AS MARBLES as well as award winning documentaries ROCKY MOUNTAINS ENCOUNTER, MAGICAL HISTORY TOUR and THE HONEST TRUTH, and the series WILD ROCKIES. He has worked with youth and First Nations actors, and has recently directed VFX and Virtual Production as well as filming in close proximity to wildlife across North America. John received his Bachelors in film from Bedford University, graduating top of his class. 

He is currently in the completion stage of his first book of three, in production of his natural history documentary mini-series, The Gentle Beast and in the pitch stage of his historical drama event-series, Stutthof Diaries.

This workshop is geared towards intermediate to advanced filmmakers looking to learn more and be a part of a conversation with an experienced film industry professional. In day one of this workshop John will share his extensive knowledge of cinematography, videography and professional cinema camera equipment. John will be bringing variety of lenses and camera bodies for demonstration including the Burano and the FX3, the newest addition to YFS’ equipment rental program. Day two will be industry focused with John sharing his knowledge of directing, producing and project development as well as unions and guilds. This day will also touch on John’s photography work with examples from his upcoming 450 page natural history photography book.
