Yukon Artists at Work - Reel Art: Celebrating Yukon Cinema

February 6, 2025

We are very excited to promote the upcoming Yukon Artists at Work show, “Reel Art: Celebrating Yukon Cinema.” The Exhibition has been inspired by two major milestones: the 70th anniversary of the Yukon Theater and the 40th anniversary of the Yukon Film Society (YFS). The art show is timed to coincide with this year’s Available Light Film Festival.

The exhibition will showcase a diverse range of artworks, all created specifically to honor Yukon film. The participating artists – Neil Graham, Aimee Ellis, Susanne Hausermann, Donald Watt, Nicole Bauberger, Janet Patterson, Leslie Leong, Pat Bragg, and Marie-Hélène Comeau – have drawn inspiration from their own personal experiences with cinema, to create captivating and meaningful works. It is a privilege to have this momentous year commemorated by these incredibly talented local artists, especially as it coincides with the 23rd annual Available Light Film Festival. For a long time, YAAW has provided Northern artists with a community space to present and promote their artwork and YFS is honoured to have filmmaking and cinema-going in the Territory celebrated in this way.

There’ll be an opening reception from 4-7 pm on February 7th. The show runs until March 1st.

Since the kick off screening for the ALFF begins at 6:30pm, we encourage Yukon audiences to check out the opening reception for the exhibition before heading up to the Yukon Arts Centre to see Northlore (dir. Melaina Sheldon & David Hamelin) and Saturday (dir. Jessica Hall).
