Across This Land with Stompin’ Tom Connors
This screening took place on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 8:00 pmThe Globe Theatre, Atlin BC
This 1973 documentary captures Stompin' Tom at his peak playing live over several nights at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto and has been ‘out of print’ and not seen in cinemas in many years. Interspersed with images of Canadian icons that are portrayed in his songs, Tom plays his classics, including Bud the Spud, Big Joe Mufferaw, Sudbury Saturday Night, The Hockey Song and Moon Man Newfie. Canada’s fierce and prolific folk music icon went ‘Long Gone to the Yukon’ in March 2013 at the age of 77. From his upbringing as a ‘street-rat’ in Saint John, Tom over-came poverty to become a professional musician for five decades, an Officer of the Order of Canada and have his portrait on a Canadian stamp.
