This 1973 documentary captured Stompin’ Tom at his peak, playing live over several nights at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, and has been ‘out of print’ and not screened in cinemas for many years. Interspersed with images of Canadian icons portrayed in his songs, Tom plays dozens of his classics, including: Fire in the Mine, The Ketchup Song, Bud the Spud, Big Joe Mufferaw, Sudbury Saturday Night, The Hockey Song and Moon Man Newfie. From his hard-scrabble upbringing in Saint John, NB, Tom overcame poverty and thrived as a professional musician for five decades. He also became an Officer of the Order of Canada and has had his portrait on a Canadian stamp. Join us for this cinematic tribute honouring Canada’s fierce and prolific folk music icon, who recently passed away in March at the age of 77.
