During their stay this month at the JHAR, Sarah is editing a documentary about a small town in the Cariboo District, down the road from Barkerville, that was built as a company town for the adjacent hard-rock mine. Wells, BC was founded on a gold mine in the 1930s, but 100 years later not everyone is sure about the mines revival. Let’s talk about it! Genge will host a roundtable discussion on ethical and empathetic editing in the documentary form. Using newly edited scenes from their in-progress documentary film about the town of Wells, Genge will look to the community of Whitehorse to engage with ideas surrounding the ways in which editing can or cannot handle implicit bias, objectification and contrasting perspectives.
