Declan O’Donovan In Concert

This event took place on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 9:00 pmYukon Theatre

Doors at 8:30pm. This is a licenced all-ages event.

A solo performance by Declan O'Donovan at the Yukon Theatre. Declan will perform songs on acoustic piano and guitar from his new LP Amok and his previous two recordings. Whitehorse-based singer-songer Hendrika will play an opening solo set!

Within the earthy, baroque psychedelia of his 3rd album, Amok, Declan O’Donovan meditates on losing track of time. It’s a phenomenon we’re all intimately familiar with—”a
pedestrian and profound thing to do,” as the Yukon songwriter puts it. Amok is hardly a linear narrative, though, with a beginning, middle, and end; the album and the characters who populate it twist and pull time, fall out of it and into it, find themselves transformed by it. Songs go off the rails and expand themselves defiantly as O’Donovan inhabits their narrators—a hospital patient; a character in an Edgar Allen Poe story; people trapped on sinking ships or floating in space with satellites and dark matter.

'I’ve found it difficult to tear myself away from this record since first hearing it ...every song on the album is unforgettable.’
– Great Dark Wonder

Hendrika (Selina Heyligers-Hare) is a vocalist, guitarist, pianist and songwriter who has performed countless times in Western Canada. She has established herself in a lead role and a supporting role for many bands coming out of her home Territory; The Yukon. After completing the Music and Technology program at Selkirk College, Selina was asked to join one of the biggest acts in the territory, she decided to return home and work with Major Funk. Since then they have toured throughout Western Canada, recorded a studio EP and two full albums, produced music videos and have been hired to play high end shows across the Yukon. Another group of note would be The Naysayers. The well established band leader Drea Nasager chose Selina as her new lead guitar player, they recorded an album and are planning exciting things for the future.
