This NFB supported film explores Vancouver’s Chinatown, as shop owners get busy at daybreak. With a dash of irony, a brightly lit sign saying “Everything Will Be” dominates the skyline of the well-defined neighbourhood. Urban change and the small community’s inexorable transformation are the only thing anyone talks about, or at least thinks about. Julia Kwan films residents attentively and gently as they go about their daily business. Careful framing and fluid editing help her capture the passage of time in a world conscious of its changing nature but determined to persevere as long as possible. A beautifully crafted film that asks important questions about urban development, through the simple observation of a historic neighbourhood. In English and Cantonese with English subtitles. Winner of Best BC Film - Honorable Mention at VIFF 2014 Read a great interview with director Julia Kwan in the Georgia Straight.
