Filmed largely in Carcross, Whitehorse, Tombstone Territorial Park and Atlin, BC, the hypnotic and rather un-Disney-like Disney Production Never Cry Wolf is based on Farley Mowat's 1963 non-fiction memoir about studying wolves in the Canadian Arctic in the 1940s.

Tyler (Charles Martin Smith) is a Canadian government researcher who goes to the Arctic to determine whether wolves are the real menace to the vanishing caribou. Alone, Tyler divides his days between research and survival, while nights are fraught with nightmares of wolf attacks upon him. He soon encounters two wolves — which he names George and Angeline, who have pups, and discovers they seem as curious of him as he is of them. He and the wolves begin social exchanges, even urine-marking their territories, producing trust and respect between them. He ends up dispelling myths about wolves and learning more about himself. He ingratiates himself with the species and creates a particularly unique experiment, which ultimately results in his discovery that humans are more detrimental to the natural environment than the wolves. Brian Dennehy's pilot/real estate developer character makes an appearance now and then. Tyler also befriends locals Ootek and Mike, which likely keeps him from going just a wee bit insane out there in the wilderness.
