After several years away from the silver screen, Wim Wenders returns with Perfect Days, a poignant character study and a deeply moving, poetic reflection on finding beauty in the everyday world around us.
Hirayama works as a toilet cleaner in Tokyo and seems content with his structured simple life. Dedicating his free time to his passion for music and books, Hirayama also expresses a fondness for trees and he photographs them. Gradually and through a series of unexpected encounters, his past is slowly revealed.
The film competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and the Best Actor Award for Kōji Yakusho; and was shortlisted for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.
