Sinister Oculus

This event took place on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 7:59 pmKwanlin Dün Cultural Centre

Not quite a concert, not quite a film, the group performs ‘live cinema’ with film being cut live and simultaneously sound tracked on stage. The group consists of a song-writer, a poet, a visual artist, a sound designer and a film maker, and all of these disciplines are brought to bare in their performances. Collaborative, creative and intense, the group draws inspiration from the landscapes, people and unique experiences of life in Canada’s north. I built a skyscraper in my mind, Sinister Oculus' most recent show is inspired by the model of Tobias Wolff’s short story ‘Bullet in the Brain’, where Wolff imagines, chronicles and explores the last ten seconds of a person’s life. As one’s ‘life flashes before their eyes’, what do you see, think, remember, regret and rejoice in? Over the course of an hour Sinister Oculus pulls these ideas and experiences apart and present them to the audience in a way that mesmerizes and cannot help but evoke emotion. Sinister Oculus was formed in 2011 in Yellowknife NT. Canada, out of a desire to create unique and immersive experiences for their audience. Over the past five years, the group has developed its identity, ideas and presentation playing venues from dingy basements to international film festivals. The Yellowknife-based collective includes: Jay Bulckaert (filmmaker, live video design), Paul Cressman (bass, vocals), Dana Sipos (vocals, mandolin), Travis Mercredi (sound design, guitar), Mark Rendell (violin), Emily Smits (drums, percussion) and special guest Jordy Walker (keyboards, electronics). Special Ticketed Event - $22 Ticket price includes entry to the Dead North Film Festival Selections Screening after the show
