Status Quo? The Unfinished Business of Feminism

This screening took place on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 5:59 pmYukon Arts Centre

Feminism has shaped the society we live in. But, upon closer examination, just how far has it brought us, and how relevant is it today? This feature documentary zeroes in on key issues that continue to concern women. How much progress have we have truly made on issues such as violence against women, access to abortion, and universal childcare. Through archival material from the 1967 Royal Commission on the Status of Canadian Women and startling contemporary stories, Status Quo? resuscitates these questions in a provocative manner and reveals answers that are at times shocking. Produced by the National Film Board of Canada Status Quo? is a slick, entertaining, extremely well researched and thought-provoking platform. Winner of the World Documentary Award at Whistler Film Festival 2012. A post-screening panel discussion will follow this film. Panelists: Jennifer England, Director of Yukon Women's Directorate Scott Carlson, Project Coordinator: Engaging Yukon Men and Boys In Ending Violence Against Women (Les EssentiElles) Moderator: Hillary Aitken, Program Coordinator, Victoria Faulkner Women's Centre
