The Assistant

Streamed online between July 10 and August 7, 2020

Opens Thursday July 9.

Jane, played with a steely determination by Julia Garner, is a recent college graduate and aspiring film producer, who has recently landed her dream job as a junior assistant to a powerful unseen entertainment mogul, grows increasingly aware of the abuse that insidiously colours every aspect of her work day. Her boss is the kind of man who berates his employees, yells at colleagues, and ignores his wife's calls, all while finding time to sexually coerce young women into trading sexual favors for the possibility of career advancement.

The Assistant is an unsettling, powerful and critical #MeToo dramatic observation of the film industry and it's complacency in fostering a workplace where overworked staff, verbal abuse and sexual misconduct are normalized. Kitty Green's searing, subtle workplace drama unfolds in real-time, and features a masterclass performance by the Emmy award-winning Julia Garner (Ozark).
