The Originals is a film about the amazing and talented group of people who started the Caravan Stage Company and Caravan Farm Theatre, in Armstrong British Columbia. But it is also a film about a mid-career theatre artist’s exploration of a new medium (film) and a style of working (documentary).
Niall McNeil is an artist living with Down's Syndrome. His roots and identity as an artist are deeply intertwined with the Caravan. Though the majority of Niall’s arts practice has been in theatre, he has a growing interest in exploring film as a medium of self-expression. In the process of documenting these stories, Niall learned more about his own story. This film is Niall’s exploration of his ever-evolving arts practice, and an historical homage to one of Canada’s most iconic, ground-breaking, and successful theatre companies.
Directors Niall McNeil and Mike McKinlay in attendance.
