The Wind Rises is based loosely on the life story of Jiro Horikoshi: the designer of a lightweight fighter plane that enabled many victories for the Japanese during WWII, namely, Pearl Harbour. The film has the feeling of a meditative epic about Japan’s traumatic journey into modernity: A complicated allegory about the innocence, arrogance and culpability of artists. This Oscar-nominated animated film, which Hayo Miyazaki has said will be his last as a director, is a work of immense mystery and strangeness, loaded with unforgettable images, spectacular sweeps of colour and nested, hidden meanings.
The English-dubbed version will be presented. English-Language Voice Cast:
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Martin Short, Stanley Tucci, Mandy Patinkin, Mae Whitman, Werner Herzog, Jennifer Grey, William H. Macy, Zach Callison, Madeleine Rose Yen, Eva Bella, Edie Mirman, Darren Criss, Elijah Wood, Ronan Farrow, David Cowgill
