Cinema Special Projects and Operations Manager - term position

If so, we may have the perfect opportunity for you! The Yukon Film Society (YFS) is hiring a Cinema Special Projects and Operations Manager to be a part of our energetic and dedicated team. YFS intends to conduct the first round of interviews ASAP and will continue to accept applications until we find the candidate who best compliments the organization. As the organization’s Cinema Special Projects and Operations Manager, you will be a self-directed team player with experience managing building renovations, working with contruction contractors, managing cinema operations and writing grants. The Cinema Special Projects and Operations Manager will work under the direction of YFS Artistic Director and Board to help plan manage renovations and cinema operations from October through December 2022.

The Yukon Film Society is a thriving 38-year-old non-profit organization committed to ensuring the vitality and excellence of cinema and media arts in the Yukon and the North. We exhibit studio and independent cinema, film, audio, and digital media artwork, provide filmmaking resources and equipment to our members. We also provide training and professional development as it relates to film and digital media production and distribution. Our programming focuses on films that represent the experiences of Indigenous peoples, explore natural history and ecology, represent the lives and stories of other cultures, include LGBTQ+ themes, films by and about women, and films that reflect the experiences of people living in northern and rural regions. Job Description

This is an 8 - 10 week term staff position (35 to 40 hours per week), reporting to Artistic Director and the YFS Board of Directors. Core responsibilities include:

Yukon Theatre renovations

Oversee financial management and budget for Yukon Theatre renovations

Liase and organize contractors who are hired to undertake renovation projects at the Theatre

Cinema Operations and Administration

Contribute to regular staff meetings;

Report monthly to the Board of Directors about renovation project;

Co-manage 4 to 6 box office staff including summer students and program staff by providing orientation, training, creating work plans

Daily tasks related to managing the building - repairs, marquees, posters and organization of concession areas, bathrooms, lobbies and cinemas.
 

Programming

Contribute to annual programs that help YFS achieve its mission. Programs currently include the growth and operation of the Yukon Theatre Cinema, workshops, Available Light Film Festival and Industry conference, year-round Available Light Cinema, Yukon48 Hour Film-making Challenge, equipment rentals, Available Light on Demand VOD service, Jenni House Artist Residencies (with the Jenni House partners) and the ongoing expansion of a cinema library;

Grant-writing

Prepare grant applications, manage relationships with funding agencies, and submit reports and other information as required;
 

Essential Experience and Skills

Proven ability to take initiative and work in a self-directed manner;

Experience working in the film, cinema or media arts sector;

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including familiarity with social media;

Experience with funding proposals and reports, and sponsorships;

Experience working with diverse communities;

Strong administrative, financial management and record-keeping skills;

Proven event organizing abilities;

Proven ability to work positively and constructively with staff, funders, Board, and volunteers;

Flexibility and adaptability to assist with new projects, challenges and technologies as they arise;

Proficiency with Microsoft software (Word and Excel) and Mac computer;

Experience working with web-based event management software and virtual cinema platforms an asset;

Experience working in the non-profit sector an asset;

Valid driving license an asset.

Compensation

35 to 40 hours per week at $28-32/hour depending on experience. Plus all the popcorn you can eat during all the movies you can watch!
