As the Society’s Distribution Coordinator, you will operate and expand YFS' Available Light On-Demand (ALD) video streaming service and implement the YFS' artistic vision and strategy with regard to exhibition activities, community outreach, marketing and communications.

We exhibit studio and independent cinema, film, audio, and digital media artwork, provide filmmaking resources and equipment to our members, and provide training and professional development as it relates to film and digital media production and distribution. Our programming focuses on films that represent the experiences of Indigenous peoples, explore natural history and ecology, represent the lives and stories of other cultures, include LGBTQ+ themes, films by and about women, and films that reflect the experiences of people living in northern and rural regions. Job Description

This is a full-time term position at 35 hours per week until May 15, 2024.

The Distribution Coordinator will work under the supervision of the YFS Artistic Director and YFS General Manager, and in collaboration with the YFS Technical Coordinator. Core responsibilities include:

Operating and expanding YFS’ Available Light On-Demand (ALD) video streaming service https://availablelight.watch/about  

  • Arrange any necessary edits/updates to the ALD website.
  • Organize meetings of the ALD Curatorial Committee to choose the ALD titles for each year.
  • Draw up contracts for ALD films, using the template provided by YFS.
  • Implement social media and digital advertising campaigns for ALD films.
  • Organize one-on-one training sessions on digital film and media arts marketing for approximately 5 filmmakers featured on ALD per year. Ensure that attendees fill out Evaluation Forms.
  • Compile monthly analytics reports for film rentals and social media. Distribute film rental and social media analytics to filmmakers quarterly.
  • Adjust and reschedule film releases and online marketing according to analytics results and data.
  • Organize special offers for limited time viewing of ALD films without a paywall, pending funding.
  • Publish ALD annual report on the ALD website in spring each year.
  • Liaise with cinematheques, film and media arts festivals, film and media industry to promote ALD and share ALD experiences.
  • Develop opportunities to license ALD content to educational and other markets.
  • Contract local filmmakers to assist with creating digital media content to promote specific films and filmmakers on ALD and the service generally. This includes interviews with directors, screen talent, a short trailer highlighting work in the catalogue, and remastering support material filmmakers have in their personal archives.
  • Edit digital film footage for promotional purposes.
  • Organize closed captioning and translation for ALD films.
  • Archiving of films.
  • Help prepare grant and sponsorship applications and reports for ALD.
  • Maintain and develop partnerships with national and territorial organizations.

Education, Experience and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of the film and media arts industry.
  • Excellent social media, print, radio, and TV media skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Editing and filming skills.
  • Proficiency with Google analytics and digital design.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent administrative and record-keeping skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Desire to take initiative on new projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software (Word and Excel) and Mac computer.
  • Experience working with web-based collaborative software an asset (YFS uses Zone Festival, FilmFreeway, and Eventive).
  • Post-Secondary education related to media arts and/or communications an asset.
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license an asset.

Compensation

This is a full-time term position at an average of 35 hours per week at $28/hour. The employee will also receive 4% of wages as paid vacation, one complimentary non-transferable Production Membership and all benefits thereto, free access to all YFS events, and compensations for use of personal vehicle when necessary for YFS events and travel excepting daily travel to and from work.
