Over the October 20th weekend, 29 teams completed films in the 2023 Yukon 48 Film Challenge.
At the start of the challenge, filmmakers received a ‘key’ to use in the film physically, verbally, etc. The teams then had 48 hours to write, shoot, edit and submit their film.
Three screenings were held in Whitehorse, Dawson City and West Dawson last week. Juries and audiences have voted and our winners are in!
Whitehorse Jury Awards
Trader Time by Curtis Allen, Best Comedy
Qimmiq by Isaiah Antony, Best Documentary
Deminted by Rebecca Pratt, Thomas Owen, Ts’ëla Owen, Best Drama
Observational Film by Jessica Hall, Best Experimental
The Sandwich by Salix Madsen, Best Youth
Each film will receive a $125 cash prize and a $200 YFS equipment rental credit

Cud Eastbound will receive a $500 cash prize
Honourable mentions from Dawson City include: Isaiah Anthony’s Qimmiq, Mark Giles’ Zippo Freeze Frame, Amy Ball’s In Studio Contemporary, Jake Armstrong’s Ungulatide and Benny Allain and Bobby Ronda’s Big Sale, and Craig Hunter’s Rerouting.
Congratulations to all the filmmakers who participated in this year’s challenge. It was another great year of immensely creative and diverse films.
