Available Light Talent Lab 2019: Call for Applications

November 30, 2018

The Yukon Film Society is thrilled to announce the return of the Available Light Talent Lab. This training program fosters emerging Yukon filmmakers through focused and hands-on sessions with industry professionals. The Lab will take place January 27 and March 2 with additional mentorship throughout the 2019 ALFF Industry conference. With support from the Cultural Industries Training Fund, up to eight creators (writers, directors and/or producers) from the Yukon may participate in the Talent Lab. December 17 - Application Deadline (5:00pm) The program is specifically designed to support the production of documentary and narrative fiction projects. Sessions will focus on developing skills to produce longer form films such as one-hour TV programs and feature length projects. However, the training will be relevant to film and media projects of any length: short films, web series, and television (one-off and episodic series). YFS is particularly keen to support filmmakers who are preparing an application for the Telefilm Canada Talent to Watch Program Recommendation Phase (YFS can recommend 3 to 4 projects for Telefilm’s first feature program) and filmmakers who are preparing a short film pitch application to participate in the 2019 ALFF Pitch Event. Sessions will be held in small and supportive groups with only the eight selected participants. Instruction will be tailored to the long-form projects of participants, include hands-on workshops, and feedback from industry experts. Beyond the lab sessions, participants will also receive access to all ALFF Industry sessions, networking events, and ALFF screenings during the week of February 2nd – 10th. Participation in the ALFF pitch event, One-on-One meetings, and other ALFF networking events will be encouraged. Through this program, participants will gain a broad and thorough understanding of today’s media landscape, develop connections with industry mentors, and be empowered to continue developing their projects.
