Kevin House: Music from Down River
This event took place on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 9:15 pmYukon Arts Centre - Cabaret
Vancouver’s folk-noir songwriter,
Kevin House, will perform his songs from the film
Down River in an intimate cabaret performance after the screening of the film.
Duality is a word that often seems to come up in reviews of
Gutter Pastoral, Kevin's critically acclaimed 2004 debut. Musically, lyrically, and visually this also seems to hold true for
World of Beauty released in 2007. If there were some forgotten Delta where the chanson and folk blues traditions congregated it might sound something like this.
"This is the second album by Vancouver-based songwriter/painter Kevin House, and in it he manages a difficult thing: plainspoken musical eloquence. His unpretentious singing is set in carefully considered but un-fussy arrangements, and the songs sound satisfyingly deep, true and comfortable.
- David Garland - Spinning on Air, NPR Radio
“A deliberate nod to the singer-songwriter classics of the early 1970s, to the seminal works of Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, John Martyn, and Judee Sill ” - Alex Varty, Georgia Straight
"On his debut album, House crafts songs like aural shadowboxes, filled with simple yet telling details about the subjects of the hushed and intimate story songs” - Amplifier Magazine, USA
