The Yukon Film Society is pleased to announce the Eleventh Annual ALFF Pitch Event, taking place in person in Whitehorse as part of the Available Light Film Festival Industry Forum. The Pitch Event is a cornerstone of ALFF’s industry programming, designed to support Yukon-based filmmakers at different stages of their careers by providing development funding, mentorship, and public pitching experience.
Six creative teams will be selected to pitch live at the event. Each team will have five minutes to present their project to an industry jury, followed by a short Q&A. Projects must demonstrate a clear creative vision and be feasible within the required delivery timelines. Three projects will be selected for the Tracey Friesen Documentary Prize, and three projects will be selected for the ALFF Pitch Prize.
The ALFF Pitch Event awards two distinct prizes, each designed to support a specific career stage and project type.
Tracey Friesen Documentary Prize (for emerging filmmakers)
The Tracey Friesen Documentary Prize supports emerging Yukon filmmakers developing short-form documentary projects. This prize is specifically intended for artists who are at the beginning of their professional careers and have not yet accessed public production funding.
The prize includes $1,000 in cash and $1,500 in in-kind production services from the Yukon Film Society. Winning projects must be completed within 18 months of receiving the prize.
To be eligible, applicants must meet the definition of an emerging filmmaker, meaning they have never previously received professional, artistic, or production grant funding. Projects must be documentary in form and under 15 minutes in length. At least one member of the key creative team (writer, director, or producer) must be a Yukon resident. All standard ALFF Pitch eligibility rules apply.
The Tracey Friesen Documentary Prize is supported by CMPA-BC and the Yukon Film Society.
ALFF Pitch Prize (for mid-career filmmakers)
The ALFF Pitch Prize supports mid-career Yukon filmmakers developing short-form fiction projects with a strong artistic and production plan. This prize is intended for filmmakers who have completed previous short works and may have received professional funding in the past.
The prize includes $7,500 in cash and $5,000 in in-kind production services and equipment provided by the Yukon Film Society and Screen Production Yukon Association. Winning projects must be completed within 18 months of receiving the prize.
Eligible projects must be fiction or dramatic works under 15 minutes in length. Pitch materials must include a draft screenplay or detailed treatment (rough drafts are acceptable). Projects may not include additional funding unless it is fully confirmed at the time of pitching. Applicants must also include a letter of support from an executive or mentor producer who will advise on the project; if not included at the time of pitching, it must be secured immediately upon winning. At least one key creative must be a Yukon resident.
The ALFF Pitch Prize is supported by Northwestel Community Television, the Canada Media Producers Association, Screen Production Yukon Association, and the Yukon Film Society.
Applicants must submit a one-page project description outlining the project they wish to pitch. Submissions must include:
