ALFF 2025 Industry Forum: A Hub for Northern Film Professionals

February 4, 2025

From February 7th to 10th, the ALFF 2025 Industry Forum will transform the Old Fire Hall and Yukon Theatre into a dynamic gathering place for filmmakers and industry professionals from across the North and beyond.

This five-day event promises an exceptional lineup of workshops, panels, and networking opportunities tailored to support filmmakers at every stage of their careers.

The forum offers a wealth of activities designed to equip attendees with valuable skills and connections to sharpen their expertise and stay ahead of emerging trends. Highlights include:

  • market presentations,
  • exclusive one-on-one meetings with industry decision-makers, and
  • thought-provoking panels on documentary filmmaking, distribution, and the creative challenges of short filmmaking.

Among this year’s standout workshops is “Demystifying the Actor’s Process,” led by renowned actor/director Ben Immanuel. The workshop offers a unique glimpse into the craft of acting. Omar Majeed's "Archive and Graphics" post-production workshop offers insights and techniques for editors creating archival documentaries. Attendees can also look forward to ALFF Creator Talks with award-winning filmmakers Matthew Rankin, Sook-Yin Lee, and Don McKellar.

New to 2025 is the ALFF Live Script Reading, where a Yukon-written screenplay will be brought to life by professional actors, providing invaluable feedback for the writer.

Another exciting addition is the DGC Masters spotlight featuring Zoë Leigh Hopkins. DGC Masters is a new event series created by the National Directors Division at the Directors Guild of Canada, celebrating the work of great filmmakers and the career-spanning projects which showcase their brilliance. ALFF and DGC are proud to spotlight the work of a director who has made an indie splash with their unique voice, and who has charted a course from film to television. This special event will showcase Zoë Leigh Hopkins’ celebrated work, followed by an in-depth conversation about her creative journey and insights into the industry. It’s a unique opportunity to learn from one of Canada’s leading storytellers.

The ALFF Pitch Event on February 8th at the Old Fire Hall is open to the public who can watch 6 filmmakers pitch their projects for over $12,000 in funding and support to bring their visions to life—a must-attend highlight of the forum.

Industry Passholders will have access to one-on-one meetings with representatives from leading organizations such as the Directors Guild of Canada, Telefilm Canada, and the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network. Additionally, complimentary Industry Passes are available for Indigenous, Black, Persons of Colour, and LGBTQ2S+ creatives in the Yukon, NWT, and BC.

Thanks to the support of Yukon Government through Yukon Media Development and Telefilm Canada, and generous sponsorship of Canada Media Fund, Warner Brothers Discovery Access Canada and Northwestel Community Television, the ALFF 2025 Industry Forum is the ultimate destination for northern filmmakers looking to elevate their craft and expand their network.
