ALFF Pitch Winners Announced!
February 8, 2017
Seven filmmakers faced off this past Saturday competing for $20,000 in cash prizes and services at the Available Light Film Festival's annual pitch event. Filmmakers had five minutes to pitch their narrative and documentary film ideas to a panel of local and visiting industry delegates. The judges included VICE Media's John Turner, the NFB's Shirley Vercruysse, Northwestel's Chris McNutt, Raj Pannikar of Fifth Ground Entertainment and Kirsten Carthew of Jill + Jackfish Media.
The event, sponsored by BravoFact, Yukon Media Development, the Yukon Film Society and Screen Production Yukon Association attracted a great crowd at the Old Fire Hall. The narrative prize of $7,500 cash and $2,500 services went to Heidi Loos for her project, Hands Don't Lie, about love blossoming at an old folks home between two women who overcome homophobia and dementia.
The $10,000 documentary prize went to Jessica Hall for her film, The Left Hand Path, a short focusing on multi-dimensional Yukon artist James Kirby who is a jeweller, a carver and a priest of the little known religion, Temple of Set.
We wish to congratulate all the filmmakers who pitched in this years event and thank again our wonderful sponsors and judges.
Until next year's Available Light Film Festival Pitch Event!
