Available Light On Demand – New Streaming Service Highlights Yukon Films

October 22, 2019

Today the Yukon Film Society and Klondike Institute of Art and Culture launched a new digital streaming service and website aimed at bringing Yukon films to Canadians and the world. Available Light On Demand (ALD) will be the curated home of outstanding and award-winning works by Yukon filmmakers. Short films will be available to watch for free, with rental and purchase options available for longer films.

You can explore ALD at www.availablelight.watch and check out our ALD trailer for the first three releases here.

Seven initial films will be released in October and November on ALD:

October 22: The Vast Forlorn (by Reuben Ward), Boar Attack (by Jay White), and River (by Daniel Janke).

October 29: Left Hand Path (by Jessica Hall) and Memory Trap (by Allan Code).

November 12: All the Time in the World (by Suzanne Crocker) and Dawson Town Melted Down (by Lulu Keating).

“Throughout this year we will be releasing 20+ films on the service, with a wide variety of perspectives that represent outstanding classic and contemporary films created in the Yukon that have rarely been available to watch on-line. Over 100 films have been produced by members of KIAC and YFS since the year 2000, and we’re ecstatic to make them available for people to enjoy again,” says Artistic Director, Andrew Connors. “We invite filmmakers to continue to submit their works for consideration.”

The first three films, now available on ALD, are compelling short films including: an award-winning Dead North film from Dawson City that’s a suspenseful journey of a young drifter, a hilarious award-winning animation by talented animator Jay White, and an impressionistic documentary that reflects on the early 20th Century history of the Yukon River.

“Having attended the first Dawson City Short Film Festival as a participating filmmaker, I'm thrilled to have seen the growth of media creation in the Yukon to the point where there is local, regional, national AND international interest in works of all genres being produced here. ALD is a great platform to present these works from the past and present and make them easily accessible. The partnership with the content creators and the presenters can only increase interest in the media community and inspire more works,” states Dan Sokolowski, Producer, Dawson City International Short Film Festival.
